Peaceful Canoe Lake
Everyone has an opinion,
but not everyone’s opinion matters.
Bohdi Sanders

Unsolicited, free advice is usually worth exactly what you pay for it. It is nothing more than that person’s opinion on the subject. Everyone has an opinion, but not everyone’s opinion matters. Unless someone knows you and understands your life, his or her opinion is probably not very valuable for you and will not apply to your journey.

You will find that most of the advice you receive over your lifetime is nothing more than thoughtless clichés. Most people do not take the time to really think deeply about an issue before giving advice; they simply repeat some old clichés or quotes which have been repeated to them or that they read somewhere. For advice to truly be valuable, one must take time to give the subject some deep thought, unless the person is an expert on the topic. Advice given off the cuff rarely comes from a place of deep thought or true wisdom.

Start putting more importance on your own opinions and less importance on the opinions of others. Marcus Aurelius put it nicely when he wrote, “It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.”
